BEST ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN
OF A ONE-OF-KIND HOME
GOLD AWARD
Primary Target Market Custom House for owner
Relaxation and entertaining
• Work around the major design constraint - a local zoning
rule that requires any new construction fit on the existing
foundation of the previous house, in this case a 49’ wide by
40’ deep 1950’s walkout rambler
• Keep the view from the street level deliberately muted to better
blend with the neighborhood
• Take full advantage of the sloping site
• Provide awesome lake views from virtually every space inside
the house

This home demonstrates how a contemporary infill design can
blend in and respect an existing weekend house neighborhood
while maintaining its modern-day appeal. The house is a perfect
escape that takes full advantage of it surroundings and focused
views of the lake, regardless of season. And to do all of this while
being forced to fit within the footprint of an existing foundation
layout of a home that was small and out of date is what makes
this design particularly special.
